Activities

Our activitites programme demonstrates the wide ranging and busy social life we have on offer at The Priory

Our two Activities co-ordinators/therapists concentrate on providing stimulating activity for our residents. We offer a full activities programme based on large, small and one to one activities designed specifically to meet the needs of our client group. In particular, we are concentrating activities on individual social histories through the use of "Life Books" and working to enhance social interation.  We are, however, also conscious that many people enjoy watching television or just having thinking time and are sensitive to the needs of those who choose not to join in group activity.

Residents have a choice of two lounges and can move around safely within the home. With safety aspects in mind areas such as the kitchen and laundry are accessed only by keypads otherwise residents exercise choice and control over their day to day activities.

Our activities include entertainers and excursions to places of local interest. "Physical Motivation" is held once a week offering stimulation to music. Corine is developing complimentary therapies and already offers gentle massage. These therapies will be offered to residents, friends and relatives. We operate an open house for visitors and they are encouraged to join in activities and social events.

Residents are offered a hairdressing service in our own hairdressing salon. We have a cosy visitors lounge specifically for residents and their visitors should they wish to enjoy some privacy.

On residents’ birthdays we mark the day with a card and a gift. A cake is presented at tea time when the staff sing Happy Birthday. We also celebrate other special days such as Valentines Day.

We keep in regular contact with relatives throughout the year and welcome contributions and ideas in planning individual social programmes. We have family functions at Christmas and hold an annual summer party. Relatives are encouraged to visit whenever they wish and can telephone regularly for updates.
