Dear Friend

Welcome to the Priory newsletter keeping you fully up to date with news and events.

The Big Lunch
On Sunday the 18th July from 1.00 – 4.00pm we are holding The Big Lunch in the garden at The Priory. The event is being held to raise awareness of dementia and to raise funds for the local Alzheimer Society. The entrance fee is £1.50 which includes lunch so if you could telephone to let us know if you can come we will have an idea of numbers for catering. We will have a number of stalls including a cake stall, bric a brac and a raffle. A Ploughmans lunch will be served at about 2 o’clock to give visitors a chance to browse the stalls and Anna Golden a singer will be providing the entertainment with renditions of some old classics for everyone to join in. Our residents will be helping out on the day and are currently very busy making banners and assisting with the preparations.

If you have any items that would be suitable for the raffle or bric a brac stall all donations will be gratefully received. With the current weather I am sure we will have a great afternoon so please do try and join us.

Life Story Books
In previous newsletters we have mentioned Life Story books which document main events and achievements of a resident’s life and can be used during interactions throughout each day to help revive and stimulate life long memories. We are always thinking of new ideas to develop and improve the way in which the books are put together and recently we have produced a tool called “My Life’s Journey”. The booklet outlines what information would be useful and a number of questions for the residents to answer. It also includes a “Tribute Page” which is designed for staff and relatives to write down anecdotes and comments during the time that a resident is with us.

Activity Update
Our recent activities have been very theme orientated over the last few months. The first England match was eagerly watched by a number of our residents whilst enjoying a small glass of beer and a cake decorated with the English flag.

We hosted our very own Chelsea Flower Show, aptly named The Priory Flower Show where Anita and the residents gathered flowers from the garden and created some lovely arrangements. In addition the residents designed a collage of pictures showing their favourite flowers. To encourage residents to use the garden over the weekends we have been making some very tasty fruit cocktails complete with umbrellas for the residents to drink whilst sitting in the shade with their feet in buckets of cool water. A sight to behold!

Wimbledon week was celebrated in style with the traditional serving of strawberries accompanied by a glass of sherry whilst Anna Golden one of most popular singers entertained the residents. Audience participation was at an all time high with a number of the residents getting up and dancing!

For full details of forthcoming activities and events please contact Corrine who will be pleased to provide you with full details.

If you require further information relating to any of the above topics please email me.
